Letter to President Obama #72

Attn:    President Barack Obama

December 4, 2013

Mr. President:

I’ve had a rough couple days at work so far this week.  In my line of work, this time of year can be very stressful.  Not for me though.  I gave up on stress years ago.  As long as I have life and freedom I can make my situation better and deal with the curveballs that life will inevitably toss my way.  Unfortunately, the world’s unborn children don’t enjoy the same luxury.  They live or die based solely on the wishes of their mother and the whims of progressive activists.  Mr. President, I’m convinced that the only thing standing between our unborn children and the unbridled slaughter of them are men and women of good will and the pro-life movement.

Modern society and pro-abortion leaders like you have done your best to condition the dumb masses to accept abortion as a safe procedure that makes an inconvenient set of circumstances just go away.  You conveniently leave out the fact that a human being is killed every time an abortion is performed and that over a million American children are killed every year by the abortion industry.  Mr. President, your insidious quest to make abortion more accessible has resulted in the American taxpayers being forced to fund abortions through the unmitigated disaster you proudly refer to as ObamaCare.

Just like I gave up on stress, I refuse to give up on the fight for every unborn child’s life.  Each and every one of them was granted the gift of life for reasons I can’t explain and were granted that gift by the One I do not question.  With Christmas just around the corner, I have no interest or desire for worldly gifts.  The only gift I desire is that every unborn child be allowed to be born.  Mr. President, if a child misses out on the gift of life, nothing else really matters does it?  This is the season of giving.  It’s also the season of receiving.  From the One who grants the gift of life, who are we to refuse to accept it?

Mr. President, with the New Year coming up it’s also time for everyone to make their New Year’s resolutions.  I’m sure yours is to get that freaking website up and running and to hope for something to happen that will take the attention off your colossal healthcare disaster.  I’ve already made my resolution too.  I plan to pester the hell out of you, Planned Parenthood, and the rest of the pro-abortion crowd until you all see the error of your ways.  Happy Holidays!

As always, my letters to you are published on my pro-life blog at www.prolifepoppop.com.  Write back and I’ll publish it, unedited.

Letter to President Obama #71

The White House

1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW

Attn:    President Barack Obama

December 3, 2013

Mr. President:

Last Tuesday in his “Evangelii Gaudium” Pope Francis stated with absolute clarity that the Catholic Church will not change its teachings on abortion.  The Progressive whims of liberalism will never shake the eternal truth that every life is priceless and deserving of all the protections afforded to every other life.  But, not even the Pope can persuade America’s left-wing pro-abortion crowd to back it down.

Up next in both houses of Congress comes the Women’s Health Protection Act of 2013; the pro-abortion crowd’s latest attempt to dehumanize unborn children by portraying abortion as a women’s health issue.  Anyone with even half a brain knows that killing an unborn child has nothing to do with women’s health and everything to do with promoting a liberal agenda where actions have no consequences and personal responsibility is an unnecessary inconvenience.

I will say that the Women’s Health Protection Act of 2013 is a ballsy, in your face piece of legislation.  It makes no bones about the fact that its sole purpose is to prevent States from passing TRAP (Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers) laws.  They even use their ‘go to’ phrase that their goal is to keep abortion safe and legal.  They want to keep the killing of an innocent human being ‘safe and legal.’  The hypocrisy is palpable.

I see the Women’s Health Protection Act of 2013 as a move of desperation on the part of your administration and the pro-abortion wing of your party.  While you’ve been busy destroying our economy and promoting one of the greatest disasters in the history of America, ObamaCare, pro-life States have been passing legislation that restricts the killing of our unborn children.  In order to achieve the Socialist Utopia you and your followers dream of, kids have to die.  In order to satisfy Planned Parenthood’s business plan of killing hundreds of thousands of babies every year, a federal statute needs to be in place to give the Courts cover when they void the State statutes.

Mr. President, the insidiously corrupt nature of your administration is truly mind-numbing.  You apologize to the world for the success of America, while destroying our economy, while taking over our health care, while stating “God bless Planned Parenthood”, while covering up the IRS, NSA, Fast & Furious, Benghazi, and Solyndra scandals, while allowing Iran to move closer to nuclear weapons, and while throwing our friends in Israel under the bus.  It appears that being an enemy of the country you swore to defend can keep an abject failure of a President quite busy.

Christmas is coming up and I’m sure I’m not on your Christmas card list.  That’s OK; you’re not on mine either.  Here’s a novel idea.  Declare December an abortion-free month in America and allow over 100,000 doomed babies to enjoy the gift of life.

As always, my letters to you are published on my pro-life blog at www.prolifepoppop.com.  Write back and I’ll publish it, unedited.

My Grandson’s Journey Parts 7 & 8

My Grandchild’s Journey:

A little over 3 years ago, upon learning of the impending birth of my first grandchild, I decided to document my thoughts so I could share them someday with what I didn’t know at the time would be my first of 2 grandsons.  I ended up writing 8 short pieces over several months and then got busy on other projects and discontinued my journal.  Over the next few days I’ll publish these raw drafts as a tribute to my first grandson and his little brother who is now closing in on his fourth month among us. Since they were short entries, I’ll be posting them 2 at a time.

My Grandson’s Journey: Part 7

Friday nights are usually the time that we all unwind from a hard week at work, maybe have a couple adult beverages, and do the things we normally don’t have time to do during the week.  Friday night this week was an evening alone with my grandson and I loved it.

He’ll be 8 months old next week and is rapidly developing his unique personality while gradually tweaking his crawling skills.

While friends and family enjoyed a night out, I had an even better time rolling on the floor with pop pop’s little buddy and bonding with my youngest best friend.  Bath time was especially fun as he splashed and played, squealing in delight as he discovered the sounds he could get from his rubber ducky by squeezing it.

As with most babies my grandson’s age, after his bath his energy level begins to tail off rapidly; then I get to rock him to sleep.

I think one of the greatest pleasures and privileges of my life is to be trusted to care for this little boy and to listen to him breath as I rock him to sleep.

Watching him sleep strengthens my resolve to be an advocate for the sanctity of human life and the pro-life movement.

Millions of parents and grandparents will never know the simple pleasure of rocking a child to sleep because they made the choice to terminate a pregnancy, ending forever the limitless potential of another human life.

We are better than this as a society and we must do better.  Think about it the next time you see a happy baby and remember the millions who never got the chance.

My Grandson’s Journey: Part 8

Today, as I reflect on the future of the world that my grandson was born into just over 8 months ago, I’m concerned.

The America that we live in has become an entitlement society.  Everyone seems to have their hand out, expecting everything they desire to be given to them with no effort required on their part.

I plan to play a part in teaching the values of personal responsibility and self reliance to my grandson so he can be a giver; not a taker.  I want him to know that he should strive to make the world a better place when he leaves than it was when he arrived.

I have no idea what the future holds but I pledge to do everything in my power to prepare him for whatever may come.

As his journey unfolds, I look forward to being there for him and to share in his triumphs and to console him during the inevitable defeats.

I hope that someday when he reads this he will remember that Pop-Pop always had his back and was always there for him.

I know he will do well and will make his family proud.

My Grandchild’s Journey Parts 5 & 6

My Grandchild’s Journey:

A little over 3 years ago, upon learning of the impending birth of my first grandchild, I decided to document my thoughts so I could share them someday with what I didn’t know at the time would be my first of 2 grandsons.  I ended up writing 8 short pieces over several months and then got busy on other projects and discontinued my journal.  Over the next few days I’ll publish these raw drafts as a tribute to my first grandson and his little brother who is now closing in on his fourth month among us. Since they were short entries, I’ll be posting them 2 at a time.

My Grandchild’s Journey: Part 5

At 22 weeks, my grandson has more than doubled his size in a little over a month.  In another 2 weeks he’ll enter his third trimester, beginning his rapid acceleration in development towards his debut with the world on or about March 19, 2011.

As his nervous system develops, his sense of touch and taste are being readied for the countless sensations that await him in the new world he is about to enter.

He is now about the size of a cabbage and is already beginning to recognize the sound of his mother’s voice.

While our grandson develops under the perfectly synchronized and watchful eye of Mother Nature, my wife and I are discussing how we want to be addressed by our first grandchild.  Will he use the traditional mom- mom and pop- pop or something else?  I say leave it up to him, and of course, his soon-to-be grandmother has other ideas.

Whatever he decides to call me, I look forward to helping him avoid making some of the mistakes I have made, while knowing he will encounter the inevitable ups and downs we all face in life.  I want him to know that I’ll be there for him to keep his head screwed on straight during the high times and to provide consolation and comfort during his low times.

My grandson will be coming into the world during a very dangerous and difficult time.  Our political leaders have mortgaged his future for nothing other than securing their re-election and appeasing special interest groups.  Fanatical terrorists are targeting my grandson’s homeland in the name of a perverted interpretation of their religion, with a mission to kill Americans for no other reason than we are who we are.

My grandson’s generation has a lot of work to do to clean up the mess he is being born into.  I know that he will be up to the challenge.

My Grandson’s Journey: Part 6  (written 9/11/11)

It’s been awhile since my last post and a lot has happened.  My grandson was born exactly one month early and is now nearly 7 months old.  He is healthy and happy and a joy to be around.

As a grandparent I treasure every moment I am with him and enjoy his company as much or more than the time I spend with others who think their communication skills are more evolved than his.  I question their assertion on this point at times but hold my tongue.

As I reflect today on the horrible events that occurred 10 years ago on 9/11, I realize how fragile life is and how precious the time that I spend with my grandson is.  Tomorrow is not guaranteed and I am committed to doing everything in my power and to give everything I have, including my life, if need be, to insure a safe and happy life for my grandson.

I never imagined how special being a grandparent would be until I was able to hold this little boy in my arms as he slept, to comfort him when he was startled by a noise, or to hold him as he drinks his bottle and falls asleep, his stomach full, and knowing that he feels loved and safe in my arms.

Its grandparents’ day next Wednesday at his daycare center.  I can’t wait!

My Grandchild’s Journey Parts 3 & 4

My Grandchild’s Journey:

A little over 3 years ago, upon learning of the impending birth of my first grandchild, I decided to document my thoughts so I could share them someday with what I didn’t know at the time would be my first of 2 grandsons.  I ended up writing 8 short pieces over several months and then got busy on other projects and discontinued my journal.  Over the next few days I’ll publish these raw drafts as a tribute to my first grandson and his little brother who is now closing in on his fourth month among us. Since they were short entries, I’ll be posting them 2 at a time.

My Grandchild’s Journey: Part 3

At 18 weeks it’s official.  My grandchild is now my grandson.

At 18 weeks my grandson’s arms, legs, fingers, and toes are formed and functional.  His spine, ribs, and the rest of his 206 bones are clearly visible by sonogram.  The two hemispheres of his brain are easily seen even though he only weighs 7 ounces.

As my family and I viewed the sonogram, my daughter’s doctor pointed out the indisputable evidence that her baby was indeed a boy.

Now, picking a name and choosing the right room colors and baby furniture takes on a new sense of urgency for my daughter and her husband, while the rest of the family debates what football team’s colors the newest member of our family should wear on the trip home from the hospital next March.

At 18 weeks my grandson was trying to put his thumb in his mouth.  He was moving on his own and we could see his heart beating in his chest.

At 18 weeks my grandson is already a part of our family as we continue to watch him grow and develop.

And at 18 weeks, under current U.S. law, my grandson could still be aborted simply because his parents decided that now is not the right time to have a baby.

Thousands of times every day in America a baby’s fate is determined in this manner and the chance for a new life to make its mark on the world is denied.

My grandson will be given the opportunity to make his mark on the world and he’ll do it with the love and support of his family.

I can only hope that his presence in the world will inspire just one more person to make the right choice and choose life.

My Grandchild’s Journey: Part 4

At 20 weeks my grandson is the size of an eggplant and weighs about 11 ounces.  And my beautiful and very petite daughter has barely gained a pound.  She is, however, beginning to display a slight rounding on her normally flat stomach, evidence of the new and rapidly developing life nestled comfortably inside, having now completed slightly more than half his journey to birth.

At this stage of life my grandson is able to discern and react to sound.  He is becoming more active and the resulting feeling described by my daughter as fluttering in her stomach is becoming more frequent.

As his growth and development accelerates, my grandson is moving his new found arms and legs with more vigor, almost as if he were testing them to learn how to use them and discovering what they are for.

When my grandson is welcomed to the world next March, he will begin his life in a world full of unprecedented challenges and opportunities.  As a family, we will always be honest with him about life’s challenges while we teach him that the only real limits in life are the ones we place upon ourselves.

I hope my grandson will read this someday and know that my generation did everything in our power to make the world a better place for his generation.  I hope he will grow up in a society that has renewed its reverence for life at every stage, from conception to natural death.   And I hope that he learns very early in life, not to take anything too seriously.

And finally, after what I pray is a long and fruitful life, I hope he can look back and reflect on his life and know that the world is a better place because he was here.

My Grandchild’s Journey Parts 1 & 2

My Grandchild’s Journey:

A little over 3 years ago, upon learning of the impending birth of my first grandchild, I decided to document my thoughts so I could share them someday with what I didn’t know at the time would be my first of 2 grandsons.  I ended up writing 8 short pieces over several months and then got busy on other projects and discontinued my journal.  Over the next few days I’ll publish these raw drafts as a tribute to my first grandson and his little brother who is now closing in on his fourth month among us.  Since they were short entries, I’ll be posting them 2 at a time.

My Grandchild’s Journey: Part 1

Beginning with this post, I will be chronicling my first grandchild’s journey from 12 weeks after conception to birth, and beyond.

My daughter and son in law are complicit in a miracle; a miracle that the greatest minds the world has ever known cannot explain.  No one can explain how the miraculous spark of life began my grandchild’s journey to birth where he or she will join over 6 billion other human beings.  This child will be one of us and at the same time will be totally unique and different from any other human being that ever has or ever will exist.  On or about the middle of next March, we will welcome this one of a kind bundle of joy to the world.

At 12 weeks my grandchild was 2 ½” long, about the size of a peanut.  Even at this stage of life he or she already presented an image that was unmistakably human.

As this special gift continues to grow and flourish in my daughter’s tummy, we have started to lobby for our choice of names, while we all know the final choice will rest with the parents.

My daughter and her husband chose life.  They could have seen her pregnancy as a horrible mistake or an inconvenience and ended the life of this child under our laws. They could have gone about living their lives without the responsibility of having to care for a child and worrying about runny noses and dirty diapers, but they didn’t.

None of us knows what the future holds for this child but we do know my grandchild will be given a chance to have a future.

The sad reality is that millions of babies in America will have the chance for a future denied them for all the wrong reasons and to all our detriment between now and the time my grandchild is born.

I know it sounds corny, but it’s true.  It’s not a choice, it’s a life.

My Grandchild’s Journey: Part 2

At 16 weeks my grandchild is developing at an incredible rate.  In the past 4 weeks he or she has doubled in length and increased in body mass from the size of a peanut to that of a large pear.

Even at this early stage of life, a strong heartbeat is easily detectable and my grandchild is irrefutably a living, unique, human being, having been endowed by our Creator with the very same right to life as you and me.  My grandchild is, at the same time, evidence of the fragility of life and the relentless nature of a new life seeking its place in the world.

Just 16 weeks ago my grandchild did not exist.  Today this child’s DNA is directing its development with a precision that dwarfs the ability of all the world’s super-computers.  The unseen signals emanating from my grandchild’s DNA will orchestrate his or her journey to birth, and has already programmed its bodily functions and characteristics for its entire life.

Just like the miraculous spark of life that started my grandchild’s journey, the intricacies of the genetic code, while slowly being unraveled, are still not fully understood.  And just how a human being’s genetic code and DNA is originally programmed still defies explanation.

In less than 2 weeks a sonogram will be performed to confirm that all the body parts of one of the world’s newest citizens are developing properly.  From that point its development and preparation for live birth will continue to accelerate.

The more I ponder the impending birth of my grandchild, the more questions I have.  When the universe was created it contained a finite amount of iron.  Where did the iron in my grandchild’s blood come from?  What is the animating life force that is controlling my grandchild’s heartbeat as I write this, and where does it come from?  What will make his or her hair and fingernails grow and how will every scrape and bruise my grandchild ever gets begin to heal and continue to heal without him or her even knowing it is happening?

Maybe my grandchild will be the one who can finally answer these questions.

Legislative Accountability Act of 2013

Legislative Accountability Act of 2013

Since the Obama administration took office they have been hell-bent to rush one massive spending bill after another through Congress before the American public could see what was in them; with few, if any, members of the House or Senate even taking time to read them.  These bills were all rushed through Congress without giving average Americans time to review them or comment to their elected representatives, all with the goal of implementing President Obama’s radical leftist agenda as quickly as possible; damn the details or consequences.

Finally, some good news for a change:

The Legislative Accountability Act of 2013 has been introduced in an effort to slow the process down and allow all Americans time to review pending legislation before it can be rushed to passage.  This bill will also require all members of Congress to certify that they have completely read and fully understand every piece of legislation before voting for or against it.

Highlights from the draft version of the bill are as follows:

Once a draft version of a given bill is complete, the general public will be given a minimum of 5 business days plus 1 additional day for every 100 8 ½”x 11” pages contained in the bill to review and comment on the provisions contained therein.  Congress will begin assembling the final draft 2 business days after the end of the review and comment period and post the final draft for review within 5 business days.

Congress will publish the final version of the bill with an attachment highlighting any changes that were made subsequent to publishing the initial draft.  The general public will once again be given a minimum of 5 business days  plus 1 additional day for every 100 8 ½”x 11” pages contained in the bill to review and comment on its contents.  At the end of the review period, members of Congress will have 2 business days to provide written certification that they have completely read and fully understand the bill they are about to vote on.  With the written certification, each member of Congress will state whether it is his or her intent to vote for or against the bill.  Final House or Senate votes will take place no more than 2 business days after providing their certifications.

After the final public review and legislator certifications have been completed no further amendments will be permitted to a bill.

Should the House and Senate be considering separate bills concurrently, review and comment periods will run consecutively.

Any bill introduced as “Emergency Legislation” will have an automatic 48 hour hold placed on it so the member introducing the bill has ample time to explain to the media and American public the circumstances that warrant the bill’s emergency status.

I endorse this bill and feel it will revolutionize the concept of government transparency and hold our elected representatives accountable for each and every vote they cast.

Problem is, I made it all up.  No such bill exists or has been proposed.

I will, however, be contacting both my Senators and my Congressman and asking them to sponsor legislation similar to what I have proposed.  I won’t be holding my breath waiting for their replies.

Letter to President Obama #70

The White House

Attn:    President Barack Obama

November 26, 2013

Mr. President:

Apparently you’re not satisfied with enabling the abortion of millions of American children and saddling the rest of your country with ObamaCare.  Now, you’ve struck a deal with the Iranian government that leaves our friends in Israel swinging in the breeze, waiting for the inevitable nuclear strike from the radical Mullahs ruling Iran.  Based on your complacency as America’s children are slaughtered, it’s obvious that you are pro-abortion.  Based on your callous disregard for the security of Israel, it’s painfully obvious that you are anti-Semitic as well.

Mr. President, why do you not have a problem with the killing of babies and Jews?  Why do you feel that the slaughter of human beings by the millions is justified simply by their religious beliefs or the fact that they are residing in their mothers’ wombs?  The citizens of Israel, just like the unborn children of America, have a God-given Right to life and should be able to reasonably expect that their fellow human beings will respect that Right.  The citizens of Israel and the world’s unborn children should know that men and women of honor and integrity will fight for their Right to live their lives.

Mr. President, if America won’t stand up for our children and our allies, what will we stand up for?  If our word and our sacred trust can no longer be relied on, who can we expect to come to our aid in our time of need?  A cynical person could think that your rush deal to supposedly prevent Iran from getting a nuclear weapon was pure politics.  ObamaCare has been a red herring and you needed to change the news cycle, so why not make it look like you reached a grand bargain with a bunch of radical Islamic nuts to keep them from nuking Israel.  The problem is, the cynics are right.  Iran can’t be trusted and neither can you.  If the nuclear deal with Iran is such a great deal, why is it only for 6 months?

Mr. President, let’s face it.  You’re an amateur.  You don’t have the expertise to be negotiating the security of the world with thugs willing to destroy their nation for their radical ideology.  Sir, if you want to change the world for the better, work to end the killing of our unborn children.  Work to save the most vulnerable among us and get out of Israel’s way so they can do what we all know needs to be done about Iran’s nuclear program.

Mr. President, I stand with the world’s unborn children and will do so until the day I die.  I stand with Israel and will also do so until the day I die.

Ms. Richards:

Saturday night as I watched football with my 2 ½ year old grandson, he began to inform me that the Pilgrims came to America on the Mayflower because the King of England treated them badly.  He went on to tell me that they shared turkey with the Native Americans on Thanksgiving Day.  I was floored and proud at the same time that my little guy was so smart that he could strike up a conversation with me about Thanksgiving.  I have a lot to give thanks for on Thursday, and he is right at the top.

Ms. Richards, I will also be giving thanks on Thursday that America’s abortion industry is beginning its death spiral to oblivion. I’m thankful that for one day this week your organization will not be killing babies for money. And I’m thankful that states like Texas are stepping up for our unborn children and doing what our national leaders don’t have the courage to do.

Ms. Richards, I’m thankful that I have learned about people like you so I can become a better person myself.  Unless you can see pure evil, you can’t fully grasp the contrast between good and evil.  Planned Parenthood, in my humble opinion, represents evil incarnate.  What greater definition of evil could one possibly have than the image of an organization that kills hundreds of thousands of living human beings every year for nothing other than the fee they receive for performing the execution?  Will the thought of what you do for a living even cross your mind as you celebrate Thanksgiving with your family and friends?  Will you entertain even the briefest acknowledgement of all the babies who had to die to put your Thanksgiving meal on the table?

In spite of our problems, America will have a lot to be thankful for on Thanksgiving.  I will have a special embrace for both my grandsons for the joy and love they bring to my life.  As I hug my grandsons this year I do so with my solemn commitment to do everything I can to save the children they should be growing up with.  Ms. Richards, we have a lot of work to do in order to fix all of our country’s problems.  The tragedy of abortion in America is not a hard fix; just stop killing babies.

Ms. Richards, as you enjoy your Thanksgiving meal, think of all the frightened, confused mothers who will be having their last Thanksgiving with their baby living inside them; the baby who is doomed to die in one of your clinics the following day.

Letter to President Obama #69

The White House

1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW

Washington, D.C.  20500

Attn:    President Barack Obama

November 23, 2013

Mr. President:

Deceit is an ugly thing.  You try do drown it in lies and cloth it in irrelevance but the pesky little thing keeps floating to the surface.  You’ve been telling Americans of conscience for years that ObamaCare would not make them unwilling contributors to abortion.  You lied, we know you lied, and you know you lied.  Mr. President, I work hard for my money and I don’t have a problem paying my fair share of taxes.  What I do have a problem with is even one dime of my tax money being used to kill innocent children.

Roe v Wade allows a mother to have her unborn child killed in America.  It doesn’t compel me to pay for it.  Roe v Wade allows Planned Parenthood and the rest of America’s abortion industry to make billions of dollars killing our children.  ObamaCare ups the ante by making it easier to get an abortion and will funnel even more taxpayer dollars to Planned Parenthood.  And to add insult to injury, Planned Parenthood is being paid millions of dollars more in taxpayer money to be a navigator for ObamaCare.  Mr. President, 56 million dead children, killed under cover of law in the greatest country on earth is a tragedy of incomprehensible proportion.  Using government to quicken the pace of the killing is a travesty.

Roe v Wade became the law of the land through deceit and false testimony, and against the wishes of most Americans.  ObamaCare became the law of the land through deceit, misrepresentation of the facts, and against the wishes of most Americans.  Mr. President, do you see a pattern here?  Abortion is the progeny of the liberal elite; the liberal elite who feel they should be the arbiters of who should live and who should die.  Abortion in America is based on the flawed premise that a woman has the Right to choose to have the child living inside her killed.  While it may be legal for a woman to have her unborn child killed, no one has the Right to have another human being killed.

Mr. President, deceit in a leadership position is an abuse of power and leads a nation one step closer to becoming a totalitarian State.  A leader who chooses to ignore the Right to life for his most vulnerable citizens is no leader at all.  A leader who actively promotes the killing of unborn children for any and all reasons is not a real leader.

Mr. President, I’m not the leader of the free world, I’m just one voice among many who will never be silent until every unborn child is afforded the same Right to life that you and I enjoy.  Since you choose not to answer my letters or have one of your staffers answer them, I can only assume one of two things.  Either you agree with me or you feel that my concerns for America’s unborn children don’t warrant the attention of someone of your unwarranted sense of importance.
