 Mr. Speaker:

Last year, before the mid-term elections, you and your counterpart in the Senate promised to pass the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.  To date, all you have done is cower in the face of partisan politics and special interests; doing nothing to protect America’s unborn children.  I took you at your word when you promised to pass this bill, and I’m deeply disappointed in your lack of courage when it comes to protecting the most vulnerable among us.

The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act would save about 20,000 unborn babies from agonizingly painful deaths every year in America.  20,000 isn’t a big number when compared to the more than 1 million unborn children killed in our nation’s abortion mills every year, but I believe with all my heart that every child’s right to life is worth fighting for.  The Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act would ban abortions of children 20 weeks old or older; the point at which they can feel the pain of being killed.

Mr. Speaker, what sane person could oppose a bill designed to prevent the brutal killing of an unborn child that can feel every cut, rip, and tear as it is dismembered?  While you and your colleagues submit to political pressure, innocent children all over America are being ripped from their mothers’ wombs and discarded as nothing more than medical waste.  Sir, these children were endowed with the same right to life that you and I enjoy.  The Constitution that you swore an oath to defend means nothing if the rights it enshrines are not applied equally and without conditions.

America’s Founders did not give their all for a country that would allow its own children to be killed by an industry dedicated to killing as many of them as possible for as much money as possible.  They dreamed of a country where every human being could express its divinely endowed right to life.  They dreamed of a country whose elected officials would uphold its founding principles and fight for its most vulnerable citizens.

Mr. Speaker, there is no gray area between doing what is right and capitulating to special interests.  You and your colleagues know what you have to do.  Pass the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act.  Send it to the Senate so they can pass it, and then work to override the President’s promised veto.   With a couple votes and couple strokes of a pen you can save 20,000 children, and it won’t cost America’s taxpayers a dime.  Do the right thing.  America’s children will thank you.
